3 quick and easy (and fun!) team-building activities

Great teamwork is often paramount to running a successful business or organisation. It improves morale, creates trust and can even develop problem-solving skills. With an endless list of activities to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to begin when given the responsibility of planning a team-building event. So we’ve put together a quick guide of some of our favourites that we often see here at Yarnfield Park, a national training centre in Staffordshire.

All of the following activities require little or no equipment, everyone can be involved and best of all they cost very little, so you won’t break the budget and you can get started right away!

One lie, two truths

This activity requires team members to write down three interesting facts about themselves, and then take it in turns to read them out to the group. However, one of these ‘facts’ must be a lie. The rest of the team must decide between them what statement is an untruth. A competitive edge can be added by dividing larger groups into two teams and awarding points when the correct answer is given.

Marshmallow Spaghetti Tower

Give each team 20 sticks of uncooked spaghetti, a roll of masking tape, string and 1 marshmallow. Each team has to try and build the tallest tower (but it’s important that the marshmallow sits at the top of the tower!). Source (our favourite!)

Yin and Yang

This game will need paper, sticky tape and pens. Before the game begins, the leader will need to have several ‘pairs’ ready. For example, Yin and Yang, Male and Female, Night and Day. One of each pair is written down on separate pieces of paper.

Next, one piece of paper is stuck to the back of each player (make sure they don’t see it!). Each player must move around the room asking other players simple yes or no questions. Once they’ve figured out who or what they are, the next step is to find their partner. The first pair to sit down together wins!

There’s more information about this game (and many others) here.
