Triathlon challenge for conference centre’s Wayne

This month we’ve got an exclusive interview for you with Yarnfield Park’s Wayne Lamb. It seems that the talents of the team don’t just stop at singing. Read on to learn more about Wayne’s fantastic achievements in triathlons.

Wayne, we hear that you’re a bit quick when it comes to swimming, running and cycling! How did you get into triathlons?

My daughter Patience had to have a brain operation a few years back. I got into triathlons to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House at Alderhey Hospital where Patience recovered. I competed in the Tatton Park Olympic Distance Triathlon in 2011. This involved a 1 mile open water lake swim, a 25 mile bike ride and a 6 mile run. From then I was completely hooked and I’ve completed quite a few since.

Go on then, what is your best time for this mammoth race?

I have managed to bring my time down to 2 hours 30 minutes – shaving quite a bit off my first time of 3 hours 19 minutes at Tatton. I’ve got big competition from Patience though who also competes in triathlons.

Wow, how brilliant. Do you guys train together?

Yes in June 2014, we joined Newcastle Tri Club, we now train 4-6 times a week with the club. Patience
completed her first triathlon on 10th August 2014 at 7 years and 4 days (the youngest in the field by nearly a year). Next year we plan to complete the Castle Triathlon Series together which will see us compete not only in the UK but France also.

So which is your favourite out of running, swimming and cycling?

My favourite of the three triathlon sports is cycling, hence why I cycle 150 miles to and from work each week. I do a few long distance rides each year. My latest was the Friends Life Tour 100 ride in Stoke on Trent which was 100 miles. I finished in 6 hours and 29mins. Patience was at the finish to greet me.

You must love it when the cyclists descend on Yarnfield Park?

Yes we have all sorts of organisations and societies that come to Yarnfield Park for training and conferences. We’ve hosted the National Cycling Charity which attracted over 400 avid cyclists to take to the roads of Staffordshire. It was a 6 day event and we put in place a camping infrastructure outside the conference centre to accommodate those who were keen to camp and make the most of the English summer.

Wayne is our Conference Sales Manager at Yarnfield Park. So if you need to organise a conference or training event for your club, society or association, contact him for a chat!
