"The Association of British Scrabble Players’ flagship event, the British Matchplay Scrabble Championship, found its new home at Yarnfield Park in 2005. At present I am in the final stages of planning our 5 th tournament there. BMSC is attended by entrants from all over the world (including Malaysia, Australia, Holland and Ireland), and in the top division there is fierce competition by English players because there is a place in the World Scrabble Championships at stake.
The venue itself is spacious, and it offers all we require in terms of playing areas and room to congregate elsewhere while games are still in progress. The bedrooms are always clean and the décor is pleasant and tidy.
What really makes Yarnfield Park stand out as an excellent venue is the way all staff are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that everything is as required.
My job as an organiser is made much easier and less stressful in the months of preparation for BMSC by the superb work done by Sue Ward and Emma Johnson, and I cannot speak highly enough of their efforts. Most of the time I liaise with Sue, and her friendly manner has come to mean a great deal to me. Of course, as we approach the 5 th Yarnfield Park BMSC, we have developed an understanding both of the requirements of the job, and of each other, and we make a great team.
On arrival at Yarnfield Park, we always receive a warm and friendly welcome. Everyone is pleasant, polite and efficient, from the duty managers to the people washing up in the kitchens and the housekeeping staff, and everyone in between. “Service with a smile” could be a phrase specifically invented for the Yarnfield Park Staff. Whilst there will always be the odd person who likes to find fault, BMSC entrants have, in the past, gone out of their way to say how much they like the venue, and in particular to comment on the friendly way they are greeted and looked after at Yarnfield Park. Nothing seems to be too much trouble.
The food is always beautifully cooked and presented, and is much appreciated by our hungry entrants. I am grateful to Chef for all his efforts in providing an appetising choice of food which caters for all our entrants, including those with food allergies and intolerances.
To anyone searching for a venue for their conference or event, I would heartily recommend they visit Yarnfield Park, where I am sure they will find the excellent service and accommodation they seek. I have no hesitation in saying that Yarnfield Park is a top-rate venue, and I can find no fault at all with the service we have received both at BMSC and throughout its planning stages."
